Samsung YP-T7J Flash Player Review

We found a review of Samsung's YP-T7J  flash-based audio player over a PC Magazine.

Reviewer Michael Kobrin compares the new YP-T7J with its predecessor, the YP-T7X - noting differences and improvements such as better analog controls.   Korbin offers criticism of the 13-hour battery life, 1.2" display, file format support, and system navigation, however. 

Overall, PC Magazine gives the YP-T7J a "very good" 4 out of 5 rating.

Samsung UK Launches 2GB YP-T8Q and YP-U1Q Flash Players

Samsung UK has officially announced (in Europe) their new flash-based audio players which hold up to 1000 tracks.

Samsung YP-D1 Review

CNET Asia has posted a review of the YP-D1 from Samsung and they've rated it an 8.0/10. It's similar to the YP-T8 with a 2 megapixel camera, and features 8 hours of video playback as well.

The good: Detailed sound; simple video conversion; good video playback time; camera function.

The bad: Occasional color banding in video; average audio playback time.

The bottom line: It's a great improvement on the YP-T8, fully feature-packed, but there are still some kinks to be worked out.

iPod Assassins Abound at CES 2006

Samsung and SanDisk have unveiled their iPod Nano assassins at CES 2006.  Funny thing is, they are basically copies of the Nano, in appearance anyway.

The Samsung YP-Z5 claims a 38 hour battery life over the Nano's 14 hours and comes in both 2GB and 4GB Flash capacities.

The SanDisk Sansa e200 has 6GB of storage, but it's also available in, yes, 2GB and 4GB forms. It also has an SD card slot for additional memory.

Both players boast a 1.8in color display over the Nano's 1.5in and both support MP3 and WMA audio files. Both will also hold photos and display them in slideshows.

The Nano killers will arrive February/March of this year.

Pioneer and Samsung Unveil Satellite Radio MP3 Players at CES

Portable music players and satellite radios are coming together into one device as evidenced by the launch of two more MP3 players that also include service from XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc.  Samsung and Pioneer unveiled today at CES two such devices:

The Pioneer Inno and the Samsung Helix XM2go are about the size of a deck of cards and can store a listener's own music collection ripped from CDs as well as XM programming. Both devices save music in the popular MP3 and WMA formats.

XM songs can also be bookmarked on the MP3 players and then later downloaded via Napster.

The Inno and Helix XM2go will both be available by March and will retail for around $399.

Samsung NEXUS Portable XM Satellite Radio

Samsung has unveiled its first Portable XM Satellite Radio with MP3 playback support, the NEXUS. This long awaited digital audio player delivers live XM Satellite Radio when docked in a car or home docking station. 

The NEXUS is available in two models, the NEXUS 25 (capable of storing up to 25 hours of XM content) and NEXUS 50 (50 hour content storage).  NEXUS has a bookmark feature, which allows you to maintain songs heard over XM, which can later be purchased online from the XM + Napster service.

The NEXUS also has an integrated FM transmitter allowing you to beam the content to any FM receiver. 

Samsung to Release YP-T8N Digital Audio Players at CES

Samsung is planning to release their new YP-T8N digital audio player series at CES in Las Vegas later this week.

The YP-T8N features a 1.8" TFT LCD display, MP3 / OGG / WMA / ASF audio playback, MPEG-4 video playback, JPEG photo viewing, FM tuner, DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) 3D audio processing, text / e-book display, and will include line-in / voice recording, USB host functionality, and a 20-hour Li-ion battery.  Three capacities of the YP-T8N will be available: 4GB (YP-T8NA), 2GB (YP-T8NQ), and 1GB (YP-T8NZ).

iPod users will have to stick with iTunes for now as the new Napster To Go Service is not compatible with Apple's iPod music players. With Napster To Go, subscribers can download an unlimited number of songs to compatible MP3 players for a monthly fee of $14.95.

The down side to Napster's new monthly service subscription is that if subscribers decide to stop paying that monthly subscription fee, they will no longer be able to play the music they've already downloaded.

Digital music players compatible with Napster to Go include the Creative Zen Micro, the Gateway MP3 Photo Jukebox and the iRiver H10. The Samsung YH-920 and Dell Pocket DJ will also be compatible following an installation of upgraded firmware, according to Napster. Creative, iRiver and Samsung media centers are also compatible with the service.
