New Asus Dolby Driven Laptops

Asus has announced two new Dolby driven laptops. The Asus W2J is compatible with Dolby Home Theater and features a surround sound system ready for playback through the notebook's speakers, as well as a digital TV tuner and remote control.

The A7J has about the same specs as the W2J and features Dolby Digital Live which converts any audio source in Dolby Digital in real time, "immersing players in high-quality surround sound that puts them at the center of the action", Asus claimed.

Acer, Asustek Taiwan Notebook Sales Up 40-50% in 1Q

Acer and Asustek are expected to top sales of 50,000 notebooks in Taiwan during the first quarter despite slowing overall demand for notebooks in Taiwan.   The two companies have recorded record sales, up 40-50% from last quarter while the demand for notebooks in Taiwan is expected to show a 30% drop on-year during the first quarter.

Asus Notebooks May Be In Top Five in Europe

Asustek Computer plans to ship 1.8 million notebooks in Europe in 2006 and enter the regional top-five ranking, according to Eric Chen, General Manager of the European Sales and Marketing Group at Asustek. The company hopes to attain a 6.8% market share in Europe, a 3% increase over last year, according to Chen.

In 2005, Asustek ranked seventh with sales of 860,000 notebooks in Europe, and its notebook ranked in fourth position in Eastern Europe and the second in Russia last year, said Chen.

Demand for notebooks in Eastern Europe is expected to grow 30-40% in 2006, said Chen, thereby helping move up Asustek’s ranking into the top three in the region. 

Chen also announced that in addition to notebooks, Asustek plans to launch own brand LCD TVs, network DVDs and Skype phones in Europe in the second half of this year.
